Aintree - British Racecourse

About Aintree Racecourse - home of The Grand National

About Aintree

Aintree is home to the Grand National Steeple Chase, at over 4 ½ miles long, it’s one of the most demanding and famous races in the world. In 1928, 42 horses started and only two finished the course. The record for the most victories in the Grand National is held by Red Rum, who won three times in the 1970's, in addition to coming second twice. Fences the like of Becher's Brook, The Chair and The Canal Turn have helped to capture the public's imagination of the race and have become household names in their own right. The Mildmay Course stages all but four of Aintree's races and is a flat track with two long straights. It is imperative horses are fast and accurate at their obstacles at both courses. Dogs are permitted in certain enclosures except for disabled assistance dogs which have free access with their owner to all enclosures as long as the owner has the correct badge/permission to enter from the racecourse.
