Ascot - British Racecourse

Home of Royal Ascot Racecourse, possibly one of the finest race meetings of the year.

About Ascot

Founded by Queen Anne in 1711, Ascot is one of the world's most famous racecourses and stages top quality Flat and Jump racing throughout the year. The highlight is Royal Ascot week in June, which combines tradition, pageantry, style and fashion with five days of the greatest horseracing in the world. Although the Berkshire course plays host to a number of top-class National Hunt fixtures, it is on the Flat that it has earned its reputation worldwide with the Royal Meeting in June. The combination of the quality racing, stunning fashion and Royal Processions that take place on each of the four days, stands this meeting apart from any other. Until 1945, the only racing that took place was the Royal meeting. More fixtures were then scheduled with major races such as the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes created. Jump racing has been held there since 1965. The course was closed for 20 months in September 2004, for a £185 million redevelopment, and was reopened by The Queen in June 2006. Children under 18 years are allowed into the racecourse free of charge on all race days, when accompanied by a paying adult.
