Newton Abbot - British Racecourse

Devon’s second and rather unique racecourse.

About Newton Abbot Racecourse:

In 1866, the present location of Newton Abbot Racecourse in Devon was purchased by local racing enthusiasts to create a space to celebrate equine sport in the region. The racing took off immediately, growing hugely popular. However, it was quite some time before the racecourse was equipped to be considered a proper racing venue. Newton Abbot Racecourse is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere for racegoers. The course offers Jumping from April to October but is best known for its Summer Jumping. It is regularly supported by David Pipe, Paul Nicholls and Phillip Hobbs. The most westerly racecourse in Britain, Newton Abbot is midway between Exmouth and Torquay and is off the A380 which runs south from the M5. Racegoers have a clear view of the course which is sharp in nature, left-handed and about 10 furlongs. Free entry for children aged 16 and under.

Course Details: Situated just 10 miles south of Exeter Racecourse, Newton Abbot Racecourse is a flat, oval, tight, left-handed circuit of about 1m 1f that favours the handy type. There are seven fences to a circuit and a very short run-in. The Devon racecourse offers views from the Course and Paddock Enclosures, alongside the Family Enclosure situated in the centre of the course. Left-handed oval, sharp with short run-in. A Circuit of 1m 2f.
