About Southwell Racecourse:

In 1886, the racecourse had its first grandstand, although riding conditions were difficult. However, in 1897 it was decided a new track was to be made and almost seventy years later a new enclosure stand was built and opened in 1965. The track became all weather in 1989, which is also the year Southwell held an all-weather National Hunt meeting for the first time. Situated just 7 miles from Newark, 15 miles from Nottingham, 16 miles from Mansfield and 23 miles from Lincoln and set in 145 acres of beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside, Southwell Racecourse is a stunning location that has been steeped in history since its very first race meeting, on 16th May 1898. Accompanied under 18's are admitted free of charge to both the Grandstand and Premier Enclosures.
