About Goodwood Racecourse:
In 1802 the 3rd Duke of Richmond introduced horseracing to Goodwood for the amusement of local army officers. Race week was so popular it was soon dubbed Glorious Goodwood and today the racecourse is renowned for being one of the most exciting – and is considered by many as the most beautiful – in the world. One of the most popular tracks in the country, Goodwood hosts numerous top-class races during the summer. The summer fixture, known as Glorious Goodwood, features five days of top-class action including the Group 1 Sussex Stakes amongst a clutch of pattern races and top-quality handicaps. The track is undulating and favours horses that race close to the pace, particularly on the round course as the field are racing around a gradual bend for much of the contest. Accompanied youngsters under 18 years of age are admitted free to all enclosures.
Course Details: Right-handed with loop for longer races. Long run-in, but primarily sharp, particularly on downhill sprint course.
Getting there, directions and parking:
Train - There is a regular service from London Victoria to Chichester (1hour, 40 minutes), plus the coastal service from Brighton and Portsmouth. Buses or taxis are available at Chichester Station.
Parking - There are complimentary and paid-for car parks available around the Racecourse with access to all enclosures. Free disabled parking is available for cars displaying valid labels in car parks Numbers 8 - subject to availability.
