Musselburgh - British Racecourse

Edinburgh’s local track.

About Musselburgh Racecourse:

Racecourses were historically established as sporting venues for the aristocracy to race their horses against one another, known as the 'Sport of Kings', and attracted huge crowds. In the 1950s, post-war Britain was hungry for entertainment and racecourses offered the only source for a legal bet.  Crowds in excess of 15,000 were commonplace at Musselburgh Racecourse and at that time racecourses did not require to be commercially operated. Musselburgh Racecourse is Edinburgh's racecourse and can trace its origins back to 1816 when races took place on Leith Sands in the Scottish Capital's historic port. Nowadays Musselburgh is one of the UK's most stylish racecourses and has a Visit Scotland five star visitor attraction status. It offers a mixture of Flat and Jump racing through the year. There is free admission for children under the age of 17. Dogs are permitted within the racecourse but must be kept on leads at all times.
